Arla Foods, a dairy cooperative bringing together more than 10,000 producers across 7 European countries, is currently having a 26,500 sqm temperature-controlled warehouse built in Daventry, between Birmingham and Northampton in central England. Located within a logistics park being developed by Prologis at the city’s intermodal terminal (Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, or DIRFT), it will be operated by XPO Logistics with commissioning scheduled for late 2027.

Automation and Sustainability

Automated and targeting Breeam Outstanding and EPC A+ certifications, the facility will enable the dairy cooperative to centralize its fresh product logistics in the country by handling all product categories including cheeses, butters, and yogurts.

Strategic Consolidation

“Consolidating our palletized operations for this product category into a single, state-of-the-art site in Northamptonshire represents a strategic advance for us,” says Fran Ball, Senior Vice President Supply Chain UK at Arla Foods.

“By partnering with XPO Logistics and Prologis on this project, we will be able to strengthen our Supply Chain resilience while reducing our waste and total distances traveled in the UK.”

Operational Timeline

Currently under construction, the new Arla Foods distribution center is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
