E-commerce giant Amazon has set its sights on German startup Rightbot Technologies, specialized in warehouse mobile robots.

Founded in 2022 and based near Munich, the young company has developed lightweight, versatile robots capable of handling diverse tasks within distribution centers.

This acquisition aligns with Amazon’s continued investment in robotics to improve efficiency and working conditions across its fulfillment network, which already deploys over 750,000 robots globally.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal underscores the accelerating robotics arms race in e-commerce. Hyundai’s MobED platform recently won CES Best of Innovation for its logistics capabilities, while European distributors like Téréva are deploying Exotec robots for goods-to-person picking.

For companies evaluating automation investments, understanding when a WMS upgrade is needed is often the first step—modern systems provide the foundation for robotics integration.
