Migros has switched on a new automated warehouse at Regensdorf, outside Zurich, to run its online grocery business. The four-floor building covers around 38,000 sqm. It will take over, step by step, from two older platforms, and at full capacity it will employ 500 people.
Consolidating Swiss Online Fulfilment
The Regensdorf site replaces two Migros platforms. One at Pratteln, near Basel, stopped operating in June 2026. The other, at Bremgarten near Zurich, is due to close by spring 2027. Migros owns the new building outright. The retailer said all 400 staff from the two closing sites received an equivalent job offer at Regensdorf, so the switch does not come with layoffs. The transition will be phased rather than a single cutover.
Shuttle Storage and Selective Robotics
Order preparation runs on a storage shuttle system feeding an automated dispatch buffer. Both were supplied by Knapp. Conveyors and intelligent sortation move goods across the four levels. Robots handle narrow tasks instead of the whole flow. They deal with empty bins and with the refrigerant packs that keep chilled orders cold on their way out.
On-Site Energy
Solar panels on the roof generate roughly 650,000 kWh a year. That covers part of the electricity the warehouse consumes.
Whether the shuttle-and-buffer template spreads to further regional hubs is a question Migros’ next investment cycle will answer.
