US cold storage operator Lineage has selected TGW to automate the high-bay warehouse it is currently building in Hutchins, Texas. At just over 56,000 sqm, the facility will rank among the largest distribution centers in the world for chilled and frozen products. Commissioning is planned for late 2027.
Operational Details
By opening, TGW will have fitted the site with a shuttle-based storage and order picking system, a pallet and carton conveyor network, and automated palletizing and depalletizing stations. The supplier expects high throughput with reliable order processing. Location matters here too: the warehouse sits near a rail terminal and is designed to serve both the United States and Mexico faster and more efficiently.
Market Context
Automation sits at the center of Lineage’s strategy as the group pushes for efficiency, reliability and sustainability across its global network of refrigerated facilities. The company operates more than 500 sites totaling around 8.1 million sqm across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Cold chain automation projects of this scale remain rare, partly because sub-zero environments are punishing for both equipment and labor, which is precisely why operators keep pulling people out of them.
If the Hutchins site delivers on its promised throughput, expect the model to travel across Lineage’s network.
