Finnish pharmaceutical wholesaler Oriola has chosen SSI Schaefer to equip a highly automated distribution centre under construction at Jarvenpaa, about 40 km north of Helsinki. Service is due in 2027, with investment topping €100M.

A 40-metre automated store

The 30,000 sqm platform will centre on an automated storage building rising 40 metres, paired with conveyors, palletising robots and high-end handling systems. Inventory and operations will run on SAP EWM. SSI Schaefer, a long-time Oriola partner, won the contract to tie the technology together.

Capacity and productivity targets

The site backs Oriola’s current operations at Espoo in Finland and Molnlycke in Sweden. Live next year, it is expected to lift storage capacity by 30% and raise peak hourly productivity by at least 25%.

“This project aims to modernise our operations and sustain them over the next forty to fifty years,” said Katarina Gabrielson, CEO of Oriola.

Pharma distributors across the Nordics face tighter service demands and stricter handling rules. Jarvenpaa is Oriola’s bet on staying ahead of both.
