Bayer Crop Science, the agrochemical division of the German industrial group, has awarded DHL Supply Chain France a 9-year contract to centralize the logistics of its seed business across France into a single new facility. The third-party logistics provider will operate the activity from a recently inaugurated 23,300 sqm temperature-controlled warehouse in Alzonne, near Carcassonne in southern France.
One Site Replaces Five
Built by GSE, the new facility consolidates operations previously spread across five separate warehouses. The site sits roughly 25 kilometers from Bayer’s seed production plant in Trebes, allowing the chemical group to shorten its inbound flows and tighten coordination between manufacturing and distribution. DHL Supply Chain France handles inbound, storage and order picking for around 25,000 corn and rapeseed seed references destined for French, European and international markets.
Industrial and Sustainability Rationale
Bayer Crop Science describes the move as a structuring industrial decision designed to simplify operations, reinforce supply chain reliability and improve service quality for farmer customers. The single-site model also cuts inter-warehouse transfers, reducing transport mileage. The new building is certified Breeam Excellent, in line with the group’s broader sustainability commitments.
A Long-Term 3PL Win for DHL
The contract is a notable win for DHL Supply Chain in the French agro-industrial segment, where multi-site temperature-controlled networks have historically been managed in-house or by smaller specialized providers. The deal extends DHL’s footprint with one of Europe’s largest agrochemical groups and underscores the trend toward longer 9- to 10-year contract durations in dedicated logistics setups.
