Jungheinrich and Automha have entered a strategic partnership and jointly developed a two-way pallet shuttle, the UP-Carrier GTJ, aimed at bringing higher storage density to existing warehouses. The German intralogistics group and the Italian warehouse-automation specialist, part of the Comau group, announced the tie-up on 22 October 2026.

According to Jungheinrich, the UP-Carrier GTJ is designed for high-density pallet storage and can be fitted into operational sites without major structural changes. The company positions it as an economical entry point into warehouse automation: pallets are initially moved by industrial trucks, with the option to automate transport later and to add Jungheinrich mobile robots as requirements grow.

A gradual path to automation

Jungheinrich frames the shuttle as a complement to, rather than a replacement for, fully automated systems. It contrasts the UP-Carrier GTJ with the four-way shuttles from its partner Movu Robotics, which the company says are deployed mainly in fully automated, high-performance pallet warehouses, whereas the new shuttle targets existing sites and customers moving step by step toward automation.

“Not every company begins its automation journey with a fully automated warehouse,” said Dr. Tobias Harzer, Chief Automation Officer at Jungheinrich. Gianni Togni, VP Sales and Marketing at Automha, said the partnership showed how specialised shuttle technology and global integration expertise complement each other.

Development and reach

The two companies developed the shuttle in nine months from concept to market readiness, according to the release. Jungheinrich says the UP-Carrier GTJ is already involved in more than 200 projects across over 25 countries, a figure attributed to the company.
