Champagne Gosset, which traces its origins to 1584 in Aÿ and remains family-owned, has automated the end of its bottling line with a collaborative palletising cell from Québec-based Robotiq, integrated by French specialist Sysaxes. The house announced the deployment in early October at its site in Épernay, in the Marne.
The cell pairs Robotiq’s PE20 palletising kit with a Universal Robots UR20 cobot — the turnkey UR20-PE20 package — fitted with a vacuum gripper. Universal Robots says the cobot handles payloads of up to 20 kg; Gosset’s installation was configured to build the 1.85-metre stacks the house required. Sysaxes, founded in 2014 in the Doubs and an official Universal Robots distributor, led the integration.
Replacing heavy manual handling
Operators had until now palletised cases by hand, some weighing as much as 11.5 kg, which added up to several tonnes lifted each day. Gosset said the project was driven first by working conditions — easing the physical strain of the role and making it more attractive — and by the need to smooth its logistics flows.
The cell had to cope with a range of pack formats, from standard bottle cases to magnums and case-boxes that call for a specific vertical pick-and-place, and it manages two pallets at once. A small floor footprint was a condition of the project, so as not to encroach on the constrained workshop. Gosset and Sysaxes said the system was commissioned in about five weeks after an upfront layout simulation, with operators able to configure and launch palletising plans within a few hours using Robotiq’s software.
