Spanish frozen-bakery producer Panabad has turned to Mecalux to fit out a new 2,500 sqm logistics site at Sant Quirze del Vallès, near Barcelona. The project is built around faster order picking and tighter control of a growing catalogue, in a warehouse that runs at minus 20 degrees Celsius.
The Brief
Founded in 1989 and supplied from its nearby Sabadell plant, Panabad serves more than 2,000 customers across Spain in frozen breads and pastries. The company wanted to streamline order preparation while handling upwards of 200 SKUs, a mix that gets awkward fast in a deep-freeze environment.
Operational Details
Mecalux deployed push-back racking, its Movirak mobile pallet system and Easy WMS software. Together the two high-density storage solutions give the site more than 3,000 pallet positions. The WMS does the quieter work: it hands each operator an optimized route on a radio-frequency terminal, cutting unnecessary movement and, crucially, the time staff spend exposed to sub-zero temperatures.
According to Panabad’s director Julián Martín, following those guided routes lets employees process orders more quickly while limiting cold exposure, a detail that matters as much for staff welfare as for throughput.
