Alstef Mobile Robotics is building a new 13,000 sqm facility near Rennes to consolidate its French operations and support a sharp increase in automated guided vehicle production. The plant will rise on the La Janais site in Chartres-de-Bretagne, just south of the city, and is scheduled for delivery in September 2027.
Strategic Rationale
The robotics specialist currently spreads its activity across two sites east of the Rennes area, at Mordelles and Pacé. Pulling those operations under one roof is meant to remove the friction of a split footprint as demand climbs. The company expects AGV output to reach 300 units a year from 2027, a target that the existing sites would struggle to meet.
Operational Details
The building splits into 11,000 sqm of workshops and 2,000 sqm of offices. Construction group Legendre is handling the project, which is designed as a low-carbon-footprint structure. For Alstef, the move is as much about industrial capacity as it is about signaling confidence in a European market for mobile robotics that keeps expanding.
Whether 300 units a year proves to be a ceiling or a stepping stone will say a lot about how fast warehouse automation demand holds up on the continent.
