DP World is adding cold storage to its footprint at the Port of Antwerp. The Dubai-based port operator, already running a container terminal there that handled close to 2.5 million TEU in 2025, will build a temperature-controlled logistics hub of just over 55,000 sqm.
Partners and Timeline
The project is being developed with investor-developer Montea and local port manager Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever (MLSO). Construction is due to start in the second quarter of 2027, with delivery targeted for the second quarter of 2028. The facility is designed to store both perishable goods and pharmaceuticals, and it is aiming for BREEAM Excellent certification. DP World has earmarked €100 million for the build.
Strategic Rationale
The pitch is one-stop cold chain. From a single site, customers will get faster access to integrated port handling, warehousing and inland transport, aimed at the health, pharma and perishables sectors, according to Rainer Schmid, commercial director for DP World Europe.
Antwerp’s pull as a pharma and food gateway keeps drawing temperature-controlled capacity. The next few years will show whether supply catches up with demand.
