Specializing in mechanical fasteners — from screws to high-tech solutions — the Berrang Group has deployed an Exotec Skypod system at its new warehouse in Ingersheim, north of Stuttgart. As a distributor boasting a catalog of over 150,000 references, this site focuses on supplying industrial customers in the automotive, mechanical engineering, medical, and optoelectronics sectors with small Class C parts: screws, nuts, bolts, as well as pre-assembled components.

Automation for just-in-time delivery

To serve this customer base with a just-in-time approach and maximum responsiveness, Berrang chose the French intralogistics automation solution. Completed in February following two and a half years of close collaboration with Exotec, the installation features approximately 30,000 storage positions — 23,000 bins and 7,000 trays — with a fleet of robots feeding three picking stations, achieving a throughput of around 135 movements per hour.

Flexibility as a key advantage

“The Skypod system is both highly flexible and perfectly suited to our just-in-time delivery requirements, where every minute counts,” says Andreas Essewein, Project Manager for Logistics and Operations Planning at the Berrang Group.
