Voies Navigables de France (VNF) has created its first port subsidiary under the name Ports de Lorraine. With an investment plan exceeding €30M for 2026-2033, it will oversee development of logistics land at public ports of Nancy-Frouard, Metz, Thionville-Illange, Toul, and Cattenom.

Encompassing 34 port platforms across 22 municipalities along the Moselle axis, these ports represent annual river traffic of nearly 5 million tonnes. Management will be handled by the Lorraine Multi Hubs (LMH) consortium, composed of Rhenus Partnership France, Modalis, MGE, and Grand Port Maritime de Dunkerque. “We are taking a decisive step to strengthen river port competitiveness and accelerate modal shift toward low-carbon solutions,” states Cécile Avezard, VNF CEO.
